Konami Cross Media NY has signed a licensing partnership with ITVX to bring the Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! anime series to the UK.
Through the licensing agreement, ITVX will offer all three seasons of the new Yu-Gi-Oh! series to its video streaming platform.
The acquisition of the full series by ITVX is part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to diversify and expand its anime catalog, as the genre has shifted from a niche market to a central part of mainstream global entertainment.
“Anime has become a major part of global entertainment, and Yu-Gi-Oh! is a big part of that story,” said Konami Cross Media NY SVP, Mark Kirk. “We’re excited to team up with ITVX to bring the newest series to fans in the UK.”
Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! follows an intergalactic warrior named Yudias Velgear and the residents of Mutsuba Town as they navigate action-packed adventures and a new Rush Dueling format.
“Yu-Gi-Oh! has a passionate fan base in the UK, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! represents an exciting new chapter for the franchise,” said ITVX acquisitions head, Darren Nartey. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Konami Cross Media NY to make the full series available on ITVX for our viewers to enjoy.”
First launched as a manga series by Kazuki Takahashi in 1996, Yu-Gi-Oh! follows a young boy named Yugi Mutou who is inhabited by the soul of an ancient spirit after activating a mysterious artifact called the Millennium Puzzle.
Throughout the series, Yugi and his friends have to face numerous challengers who wield other Millenium artifacts through dangerous card-based Shadow games.
Since its initial debut, the Yu-Gi-Oh! IP has expanded into a global multi-media franchise that includes numerous manga volumes, spin-offs, anime series, feature films, trading card games, licensed consumer products and more.
Konami Cross Media NY is responsible for handling the licensing rights for the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise outside of Asia.b
