“When Pixonic approached us with the results of that survey, the band was thrilled,” said Pär Sundström, bass player, manager and one of the founders of Sabaton. “It was humbling to learn that so many players chose us.
“We thought about the best way to say thank you, and here we are: With this little collaboration, we’re bringing one of our new songs straight to the hangars! We hope the players enjoy it.”
Sabaton is known for its fascination with military history, which informs many of the band’s hit songs. The group also has a long history of licensing partnerships with gaming franchises, particularly with the European gaming studio Wargaming, which produces the top hit game World of Tanks, which is particularly popular throughout Europe.
In June 2017, Sabaton announced a groundbreaking new alliance between the worlds of metal and gaming, teaming up with Wargaming on the creation of a new tank appearing in World of Tanks.
Avid players of the game themselves, Sabaton were immortalised as the crew of their very own Primo Victoria tank, a limited-edition Swedish Centurion tank that could be purchased and played in the game. Since August 2018, players can also decorate any in-game tank of their choice with Sabaton emblems and inscriptions.
The collaboration has also included Sabaton performances at key Wargaming events, and the company supporting the band to create high-production official music videos for their fans, most notably for the song Primo Victoria, which was released in 2018 on the anniversary of the D-Day landings.
War Robots’s collaboration with Sabaton echoes that same desire to reach gamers through their favorite music.
Released in 2014, War Robots is a third-person mobile shooter with 300 million registered users, hundreds of thousands of active players daily, and a massive contingent of fans.
