The hugely popular pop culture convention, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), is set to make its European debut in Málaga, Spain.
This historic expansion marks the first time in over 50 years that the convention will be held outside the United States. The announcement was made on March 10, 2025, during a launch event at the Gran Hotel Miramar in Málaga.
Facilitated by IMG Licensing, the agreement to bring SDCC to Europe has been made possible with institutional support from the Junta de Andalucía and the Málaga City Council. SDCC Málaga will take place from September 25 to 28, 2025, and aims to establish the city as a key destination for popular arts and pop culture in Europe.

“We’re very excited to celebrate comics and the popular arts, and share Comic-Con’s unique spirit, with audiences in Europe,” said David Glanzer, the SDCC’s Chief Communications & Strategy Officer. “We couldn’t have found a more vibrant, welcoming, and creative city to begin this exciting new chapter for fans and creators.”
The event’s launch in Málaga was hosted by Spanish actor, director, and screenwriter Santiago Segura and featured prominent figures, including Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, President of the Junta de Andalucía, and Francisco de la Torre Prados, Mayor of Málaga. Attendees included industry professionals from film, television, comics, and illustration, as well as representatives from major entertainment brands.
One of the standout moments of the launch event was the exhibition of the Infinity Gauntlet, a high-value collectible piece inspired by Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. Created by Gentle Giant Ltd. and featuring over 150 carats of gemstones, the gauntlet has an estimated value of more than $25 million.
Entertainment highlights of the event included a performance by the 501st Legion, who dressed as Star Wars characters, as well as a themed cocktail reception featuring a surprise flashmob and an appearance by the iconic droid R2-D2. The event was streamed live to audiences worldwide.
The arrival of SDCC Málaga aims to position the city as a global hub for pop culture, bringing together fans, artists, and creators from around the world. Further details regarding ticket sales, special guests, and activities are expected to be announced in the coming months.
