Hasbro has launched a new co-branded Monopoly board game that features licensed content from the The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an animated action-comedy that is based on Nintendo’s long-standing video game franchise of the same name. The movie baffled industry expectations, breaking several box office records.
Over the weekend, The Super Mario Bros. Movie set two new box office records with its opening earnings of $377 million globally, according to studio estimates. It smashed the record for most opening weekend earnings for a video game adaptation, beating out the 2016 film Warcraft and its $210 million US opening earnings.
It also set a new record for animated films, beating the film Frozen 2, which earned $358 million US in its opening in 2019, prior to the pandemic.
The film is produced by Nintendo and Illumination Studios Paris.
Hasbro’s new Super Mario-inspired Monopoly board game includes Monopoly tokens, money, and characters from the film such as Toad’s frying pan, Super Mushrooms, Peach’s crown, gold coins, and more.
In addition, the Super Mario Bros. Monopoly board features locations, events, and details from the Mushroom Kingdom.
The Monopoly The Super Mario Bros. Movie Edition board game is currently available for purchase at major retailers such as Amazon, Target and Walmart.
