The hilariously named swimsuit brand Budgy Smugglers is bringing out a new line based on the famed London Underground, or ‘Tube’.
The Budgy Smugglers announced they’ve gone Underground in a new partnership with Transport for London, releasing three new swim suits with imagery from the Tube. Inspired by the London Underground’s iconic moquette designs, the collection includes three swim trunks featuring signature patterns from the Northern, District, and Victoria lines.
The collection, which was made possible in a deal brokered by TfL’s global licensing agent IMG, is available exclusively at Budgy Smuggler’s website with prices starting from £39.99.
“Coming across from the shores of Sydney, Australia, we first set up Budgy Smuggler UK back in 2016 and have been embraced by a number of different UK communities since then, which we’re very thankful for!,” said Chief Smuggler Adam Linforth. “And now we’re so excited to link up with an iconic part of the London lifestyle and culture in TfL.”
Linforth says Budgy Smuggler started as a “bit of a laugh” in a backyard in Australia “when some mates decided to write ‘Budgy Smuggler’ on the back of speedo-style swimwear.” (Editor’s Note: We’re pretty sure there was beer involved.)
If you don’t know what Budgy Smuggler refers to, count yourself lucky, but just rest assured that no budgies have been harmed in the Budgy Smuggler operation, which has been flooding the world with comical and very tiny swimsuits ever since.
Budgy Smugglers have been particularly successful in the UK, which perhaps shares a certain sense of humor with its former colony, so Linforth says the company wanted to do something special.
“We all get the Tube to work everyday, so we jumped at the chance to join the brands and create something special for the UK Summer that is both iconically Australian and also iconically British; the TfL x Budgy Smuggler Collection!”
