The collectible giant Funko, Inc. has acquired Mondo, a pop culture company that creates iconic collectibles and products.
Mondo is best known for its limited-edition vinyl records and screen-printed posters. Through collaborations with award-winning artists and studios, the company creates quality licensed merchandise and products.
Mondo was founded in 2001 by Rob Jones and Tim League and was a subsidiary of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema prior to the acquisition by Funko.
“Mondo’s devoted fan base and high-end pop culture collectibles make it the perfect complement to Funko’s current portfolio of brands,” said Chief Executive Officer Andrew Perlmutter.
“By leveraging our international distribution and licensing network, we feel well-positioned to expedite the growth of the Mondo brand. It’s an exciting opportunity to couple Mondo’s already stellar product assortment and aesthetic with Funko’s massive property library.”
Funko is a leading lifestyle brand that is known for designing, sourcing and distributing licensed pop-culture products across multiple categories. These categories include vinyl figures, board games, toys, apparel, housewares, NFT’s, and more.
In recent years, Funko has been focusing its energy on strategic growth initiatives to expand the business, diversify its revenue base, grow the company’s Direct-to-Consumer channel, and extend its reach into international markets.
The acquisition of the high-end, pop-culture brand, Mondo, is a step towards achieving these long-term goals. The financial terms of the licensing deal between Funko and Mondo have not been disclosed.
