The anime streaming service, Crunchyroll is spotlighting several horror anime series for licensing opportunities this Halloween.
“Halloween may come once a year, but anime’s most spine-tingling stories are available for our licensing partners year-round,” said Anna Songco Adamian, Vice President of Consumer Products at Crunchyroll. “The supernatural stylings of our dark fantasy and horror roster are perfect for fans eager for something out of this world.”
The selection of horror series available for licensing includes:
Chainsaw Man: This new anime is based on the award-winning manga of the same name. In the highly-anticipated series by MAPPA studios, a teenage boy named Denji is brutally murdered by the Yakuza and then revived through a sinister contract with his demon dog, Pochita. In order to survive, Denji has to merge with a powerful entity called a Chainsaw Devil which gives him extraordinary powers.
Attack on Titan: This fantasy horror series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is under seige by powerful creatures called Titans. The series follows the journey of Eren Jaeger and his companions as they fight to protect humanity while learning more about the mysterious origins of the Titans.
Jujutsu Kaisen: This popular dark fantasy series is set in a world of cursed monsters, possession, and sorcerors. The series follows a teenager named Yuji Itadori who becomes the host of a powerful Curse that gives him extraordinary abilities. The series is animated by MAPPA studios and is based on a manga series by Gege Akutumi.
Death Note – This iconic supernatural thriller follows the story of Light Yagami, a remarkably intelligent and egotistical young man who discovers a rogue Shinigami’s notebook that gives him the power to control death. This popular anime series was produced by Madhouse and has grown into a global multimedia franchise.
Junji Ito Collection – Animated by Studio Deen, this supernatural horror anthology from the renowned horror manga artist, Junji Ito features iconic characters from some of Ito’s most popular short stories.
Zombie Land Saga – This zombie-themed horror-comedy anime series focuses on an undead idol group called Franchouchou as they work to both hide their identities and perform for their fans.
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun – This supernatural comedy series follows the adventures of a love-lorn teenage girl who becomes entangled with the fate of the ghost, Hanako-kun.
Tokyo Ghoul – This action horror series is set in a world where humans co-exist with sentient creatures called Ghouls. Ghouls usually appear human but possess extraordinary power and need to feed on human flesh to survive. This has led to an intense and violent power struggle between the Ghoul and human populations. The series follows the experiences of a ghoul-human hybrid named Kaneki Ken as he fights to survive in a chaotic world.
Tokyo Revengers – Produced by Liden Films, this anime series follows the time-traveling adventures of Takemichi Hanagaki as he works to save his friends from their gruesome fate. The ‘Bloody Halloween’ episode is perfect for Halloween anime binging.
Yu Yu Hakusho – Originally released in 1994, this nostalgic supernatural anime follows Yusuke Urameshi, a delinquent teenager who is given the position Spirit Detective after his death.
These popular anime titles are available to millions of fans in more than 200 countries and territories through the streaming service, Crunchyroll.
