Dynamite Entertainment has announced a new Barbarella comic series that will precede the franchise’s upcoming blockbuster film.
A joint work from writer Blake Northcott and artist Anna Morozova, the re-vamped Barbarella series will include new adventures, characters and saucy scenarios for the planet-hopping comic heroine, Barbarella.
The new comic series will also include many appearances from classic side characters and villains from the 1968 film adaptation from Paramount Pictures and the original Barbarella comic strip by French artist Jean-Claude Forest, that ran in the early 1960s.
Announced alongside this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the Barbarella comic series from publisher Dynamite Entertainment will launch this October ahead of the upcoming Barbarella blockbuster film that is in development from Paramount Pictures.
Northcott has previously worked on prominent comic titles such as Catwoman, Vampirella and Fathom, as well as her own original creations across both comic book and prose formats.
“There are only a handful of sci-fi/fantasy characters who have endured for decades, and Barbarella is right at the top of the list, alongside Leia, Ripley, and Sarah Connor,” said Barbarella writer, Blake Northcott. “Telling one of her stories is the opportunity of a lifetime — how could I say no to that?”
Morozova’s interior artwork will be complemented by four cover options from cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and comic artists Annie Wu, Joseph Michael Linsner and Richard Pac.
The first volume, titled Barbarella #1, is featured in Diamond Comic Distributors’ August 2024 Previews catalog.
The comic is currently available for pre-order at local comic book retailers and will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms such as Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus and more.
