Jade City Foods and Don Clemente, Inc have entered a licensing collaboration for a line of coffee and hot sauces based on the Loteria card game.
The licensing collaboration was brokered by Pacific Swell Brands on behalf of Don Clemente, the US representative of the rights to the Loteria game. Pacific Swell is a boutique licensing agency that extends brands into new consumer products and markets to grow licensing revenue and brand equity.
“It has been such a fun process to see how Jade City Foods took inspiration from the iconic Loteria cards and transformed them into gourmet hot sauce recipes and coffee blends to please every palate,” said Luis Landin, President of Don Clemente, Inc. “We can’t wait to see what new products they will come up with next!”
Loteria is a playing card game that originated in Mexico in 1887. The rights to Loteria were acquired in the 1980s by Calendarios y Pasatiempos in Mexico, which remains the current manufacturer of the Loteria game. Don Clemente, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company that is responsible for managing the rights to the Loteria brand in the United States.
Loteria is a bingo-style card game that features images inspired by Mexican culture. The Loteria brand has an expansive licensing program across product categories such as apparel, accessories, personal care, publishing, and more.
“The classic Loteria characters have inspired us to create some of our most creative hot sauce combinations,” said Cliff Wiener, Co-Founder of Jade City Foods.
“We would love to see the hot sauce incorporated into the game; call out an El Diablito card, dip your chicharron in El Diablito hot sauce!”
The Loteria consumer product collection by Jade City Foods features three different types of coffee and five flavors of hot sauce. The Loteria coffee roasts are called El Sol Rise And Shine, El Corazón Kickstart Your Day, and El Mundo Take On The World.
The Loteria hot sauces include El Cotorro: Pineapple Habanero, El Diablito: Reaper Scorpion Ghost Pepper and Habanero, El Borracho: Smoked Jalapeño with Mezcal, La Mano: Blueberry Habanero, and La Rosa: Bell Pepper Rose Habanero.
“Jade City Foods has elevated the Loteria brand by creating delicious artisanal hot sauces and perfectly roasted coffees with beautiful looking packaging,” said Vivian Velasco, President of Pacific Swell Brands.
