Kraft Heinz and Marvel Studios are launching licensed Deadpool and Wolverine collectible accessories, based on the company’s ketchup and mustard bottles.
The Kraft Heinz x Marvel Studios condiment collaboration is meant to gear fans up for the theatrical release of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine feature film.
The limited-edition Deadpool & Wolverine collectible collaboration was inspired by online comments and discussions from fans who noticed the signature red and yellow suits of the film’s title characters bear a close resemblance to ketchup and mustard condiments.
“After seeing the conversation on social media highlighting the similarities between our two iconic duos – Deadpool & Wolverine and Heinz Ketchup & Mustard – we knew we had to team up with the film,” said Kraft Heinz manager Lizzy Goodman. “Once we made that connection we couldn’t unsee it, as these similarities go beyond color.
“One’s sweet, one’s zesty,” Goodman added. “Everybody has a favorite, but really, they’re better together. And most importantly, whether at the movie theater or a cookout, both duos play starring roles in an epic summer.”
The licensed accessories include a Heinz ketchup bottle collectible themed after Deadpool’s signature mask, suit and katanas and a Heinz mustard bottle collectible that features Wolverine’s classic claws, suit and mask.
The Marvel Studios x Kraft Heinz collection will also include a promotional campaign that launches with a saucy short film that features a voiceover by Deadpool’s actor, film producer and co-writer, Ryan Reynolds.
The film starts out as a promotion for the Deadpool x Wolverine movie, but quickly transforms into an advertisement for ketchup and mustard as Reynolds breaks the fourth wall as Deadpool after realizing that he and Wolverine look exactly like Heinz ketchup and mustard bottles.
“I don’t spend much time on the internet,” said Reynolds. “When my assistant faxed me a photocopy of a memo (he spelled it ‘meme’ – ugh, assistants amirite?) wherein Deadpool and Wolverine were identified as a Heinz Ketchup and Mustard bottle, respectively, I thought nothing of it and went back to my book and tea. But the faxes kept on coming! So, the idea was hatched to actually partner with Heinz to bring this memo to life. Huzzah!”
The Heinz brand will officially release a limited number of the licensed Deadpool & Wolverine-inspired ketchup and mustard collectibles through its social media channels in the coming weeks.
