The Sandbox metaverse gaming platform has launched a licensing partnership with Cloudco Entertainment for its Madballs character brand.
A subsidiary of Animoca Brands, The Sandbox is a decentralized virtual metaverse platform that specializes in virtual real estate, gaming experiences, NFT trading, IP development, and more.
Animoca Brands is a digital entertainment, blockchain, and game company that focuses on digital property rights and metaverse development.
“Madballs is a staple of 80s culture and has a great track record of transcending media formats across generations,” said The Sandbox COO, Sebastien Borget. “I am excited to see what our community, with its youthful energy, will build using this iconic brand.”

The partnership with Madballs will include the development of digital collectibles and the introduction of an exclusive avatar collection for The Sandbox platform.
Each avatar will be based on original Madballs characters, as well as newly-released Madballs character designs. The Madballs avatars will be customized with randomly-generated traits and 20 hand-crafted animations.
In addition, The Sandbox will add themed challenges, events, and pranks on the newly-acquired Madballs LAND. Avatars will be able to unlock utilities and specific rewards during upcoming event. This will include a new multiplayer experience that is scheduled to debut on March 21, 2023. The upcoming multiplayer experience will grant Madballs avatar holders access to an exclusive in-game reward pool.
Originally introduced as a toy line in 1986, Madballs is a character-based IP that has grown to include numerous toy collections, animated specials, comic books, soft-lines, video games, collectibles, and consumer products programs. The Madballs IP is owned by the Cloudco Entertainment company.
