ITV Studios has partnered with Reality Gaming to create a licensed NFT community experience based on the classic show Thunderbirds.
NFTs or Non-Fungible Tokens are one-of-a-kind assets in the digital world that can be collected and traded by fans. NFTs are protected using blockchain technology. Blockchain is a system of recording information in a way that makes it challenging to hack.
The NFT collection is called Thunderbirds: International Rescue Club. All of the Thunderbirds NFTs are focused on utility, with the upcoming generative art pieces giving users the ability to create 3D Thunderbirds avatars based on their NFT attributes.
These avatars can be used in the Sandbox Metaverse, a massive virtual world that is focused on NFT’s and user generated content. It is accessible via PC and mobile devices.
The project will also give consumers the opportunity to take part in real world Rescue Missions. These Rescue Missions use funds generated by the sales of Thunderbirds NFT’s to aid charities around the world.
“Thunderbirds is adored by millions of fans of all ages around the world, so we’re really excited to announce our partnership!” said Neil Bowler, Controller of Games at ITV.
“Reality Gaming Group has a strong track record of creating amazing entertainment experiences using blockchain technology, utilizing only the best content and most sustainable production techniques – we can’t wait to give fans the opportunity to use these NFTs to enter the Metaverse as Thunderbirds characters for the very first time.”
Fans will be able to collect NFT artworks of vehicles, locations and character artwork based on the original TV show. The Thunderbirds TV show was first broadcast in 1965 and followed the adventures of the Tracy family and their International Rescue service.
ITV Studios, the owner and creator of the Thunderbirds IP, is a multinational television production and distribution company that is based in Britain. The partnership with Reality Gaming Group represents ITV Studios’ debut in the world of Web3, a new version of the internet that is based on blockchain technology.
“Like millions of others, I grew up watching Thunderbirds on television, so I’m absolutely thrilled to be partnering with ITV Studios to create a modern vision for the Thunderbirds franchise that will focus on community and aid good causes around the world,” said Tony Pearce, Co-Founder at Reality Gaming Group.
“This partnership is a ringing endorsement of our Web 3.0 platform, and further highlights the growing importance of NFTs within entertainment media.”
