Lacoste and Minecraft have collaborated on a licensed metaverse capsule collection in both the real and virtual world.
The collection features apparel designed for Spring and Summer 2022. To increase interest in the collection, the two companies have developed the Croco Island game map for the Minecraft universe. The crocodile, of course, is the classic Lacoste logo, seen on all of their fashion items from clothing to accessories.
The map was created specifically for the release of the licensed apparel collection. It is available for free to Minecraft players around the world and features 30 new digital skins.
The real-life capsule collection features items from the Lacoste brand with a pixelated Minecraft twist. The collection is available for all ages and includes printed polo shirts, monochrome sweatshirts, branded caps, logoed sports bras, tapered leggings, and more.
The crocodile logo has been redesigned by the Minecraft Creative Studio in the signature block-like style of the game. Gaming themed quotes from both brands are also featured on the collection’s main pieces.
The collaboration is part of the fashion industry’s recent obsession with metaverse marketing and licensing. While Minecraft has provided a video gaming platform for many years, the Microsoft-owned company is also considered among the leaders in developing an integrated metaverse, and in developing licensed products within its virtual world.
The collaboration was originally unveiled at E-Spot, a gaming center located in Paris. Approximately 400 people attended the in-person event. The event was also streamed live on Twitch, so that gamers in different regions could observe the Lacoste x Minecraft launch party.
The collaboration and the launch party were headlined by popular gaming content creators, Atomicmari and Shubble. It was also headlined by Brawk, a music artist and Smajor, a video creator.
