The global fashion brand Michael Kors is getting a new CEO, as veteran executive Joshua Schulman has been tapped to lead the company beginning in September 2022.
Parent company Capri Holdings Ltd. says Schulman will succeed John Idol as the CEO of Capri, while Idol will take on the role of executive chairman. Initially, that means Schulman will be in charge of all operations for the Michael Kors brand, reporting to Idol.
“I am thrilled to have Josh join Capri Holdings as CEO of the Michael Kors brand,” said Idol. “Josh is an outstanding leader with broad retail experience, industry depth, and a proven track record of successfully operating and growing luxury brands.”
Schulman comes to the role with deep experience in the industry, having most recently served as the president and CEO of the Coach brand, part of Tapestry, Inc.
Prior to holding that position with Coach, Schulman worked as president of Bergdorf Goodman, and also took on the additional role of running NMG International when the company acquired MyTheresa.com in 2014.
Schulman was also CEO at Jimmy Choo for five years, and previously worked in a variety of senior positions with high-end fashion brands like Gucci and YSL.
“I am delighted to join Capri as CEO of Michael Kors,” commented Schulman. “I have long admired Michael’s design vision and how the brand creates timeless fashion and embodies jet-set glamour. I look forward to working closely with him and the talented Michael Kors management team to build upon the long-standing success of the brand.”
The company says Schulman will also occupy a seat on its board of directors, in addition to his role as CEO. Idol says the move is part of a long-held plan to beef up the leadership team at Capri, giving him more time to focus on long-term strategy for the company as a whole.
“Josh’s appointment is part of a thoughtfully planned leadership succession,” explained Idol. “Over the course of the next year, Josh will immerse himself in the Michael Kors brand. In September 2022, Josh will become the CEO of Capri Holdings.
“The Board and I are confident in Josh’s unique abilities to lead Capri Holdings,” he added. “His results-driven leadership style and passion for building consumer-centric global brands will be instrumental in maximizing the full potential of our three luxury fashion houses.”
