Hasbro, Inc. has appointed Dan Rawson as Senior Vice President of Dungeons & Dragons for Wizards of the Coast in a newly created role.
A division of Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast specializes in publishing popular role-playing games, collectible card games, video games, and more.
Formerly the COO of Microsoft Dynamics 365, Mr. Rawson brings decades of experience in strategic business practices, e-commerce, and product management to the Wizards of the Coast team.
In his new role at the company, Rawson will be responsible for leading the overall growth and profitability of the Dungeons & Dragons brand across digital, physical, and entertainment categories.
“We couldn’t be bringing on Dan at a better time. With the acquisition of D&D Beyond earlier this year, the digital capabilities and opportunities for Dungeons & Dragons are accelerating faster than ever,” said Cynthia Williams, president of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming. “I am excited to partner with Dan to explore the global potential of the brand while maintaining Hasbro’s core value as a player-first company.”
In May 2022, Wizards of the Coast completed its acquisition of D&D Beyond, the popular digital companion to Dungeons & Dragons that is used by over 10 million registered players.
Since the acquisition, Wizards has further expanded D&D Beyond’s capabilities for digital cooperative RPG gaming. Mr. Rawson’s e-commerce skillset and digital-first experience will continue to support the growth of D&D Beyond alongside the overall Dungeons & Dragons brand.
“Leading D&D is the realization of a childhood dream,” said Rawson, senior vice president of Dungeons & Dragons. “I’m excited to work with Cynthia once again, and I’m thrilled to work with a talented team to expand the global reach of D&D, a game I grew up with and now play with my own kids.”
Prior to his work at Microsoft, Rawson held leadership positions for Coupang and Flipkart. At these two companies, Rawson held general management responsibilities such as marketplace development and customer logistics, as well as product, marketing, and operations management.
Rawson is a veteran of the U.S. Marines, and received higher education from Harvard University and Northwestern University.
