WildBrain has teamed up with designer Christian Cowan for a licensed Teletubbies fashion collaboration.
The Teletubbies brand is owned by the global family entertainment company, WildBrain. The deal with Christian Cowan was brokered by WildBrain’s licensing division and Cowan’s licensing agent H&S.
The limited-edition collection features Teletubbies prints in 1990s inspired fashion poses on hoodies, t-shirts, denim, and more. Cowan has also created a pair of Teletubbies-themed knee-high boots in neon green plush fabric in honor of his favorite Teletubby, Dipsy.
Christian Cowan is a New York-based fashion designer that is known for his collaborations with high-profile celebrities. In recent years, Cowan has partnered with several global brands to bring his style to the broader retail market.
“I grew up watching the Teletubbies, so being able to combine that nostalgia with my passion for fashion is a dream come true,” said Christian Cowan. “The characters’ fun, playful personalities match my own design aesthetic, so I’m excited to launch this new collection to show the Teletubbies in a new light and celebrate them as the stars that they are.”
This new licensing partnership reunites Cowan with the Teletubbies brand after the appearance of a costumed Tinky Winky at a behind-the-scenes tour of Cowan’s show at New York Fashion Week in September 2021.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Christian on this new Teletubbies fashion line. said Wildbrain CMO, Jim Fielding. “Christian’s vision as a designer is unparalleled, and his playful, creative sensibilities are an ideal match for the Teletubbies. At WildBrain, we want to ensure all Teletubbies fans have the opportunity to celebrate their love for the brand, both on and off screen,” Fielding added.
“Christian has created an innovative and stylish line that adult fans are sure to love, while younger fans now have plenty of new opportunities to engage with Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po through our new content on Netflix and YouTube.”
The Christian Cowan fashion collaboration follows the Teletubbie brands’ twenty-fifth anniversary celebration which took place in 2022.
Last years’ brand anniversary included numerous new partnerships, promotions and content for the Teletubbies franchise. The promotions and partnerships included an appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, a Teletubbies light-up of the Empire State Building, a performance at London Pride, a partnership with RuPaul’s DragCon UK.
The new content included a revitalized live-action Teletubbies Netflix series and a new CG-animated series called Teletubbies Let’s Go! for the brands’ official Youtube channel.
