KessCo and SEGA of America have released new details on an officially licensed Sonic the Hedgehog board game called Sonic Roll.
The design of the upcoming Sonic Roll board game was inspired by classic Sonic the Hedgehog titles from the SEGA Genesis era.
The Kess design team included a wide range of licensed characters, locations and items from the video game franchise such as Amy Rose, Knuckles, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Badniks, Chaos Emeralds, Golden Rings and much more.
To maintain the look and feel of the franchise, the licensed board game includes original artwork by experienced Sonic the Hedgehog comic illustrator, Tracy Yardley.
“Our goal when creating a game around a specific property is to be as true to the fandom as we can while also making a fun and exciting game,” said Kess CEO, Alex Kessler. “Our design team really put their entire blue hearts into this one, and we are excited for fans to see the care put into every detail of Sonic Roll.”
Sonic Roll is designed as a cooperative board game that can be played in a single zone Challenge mode or a seven zone Campaign Mode.
The goal of the game is to complete enough Zone Cards to defeat the villainous Dr. Eggman and recapture each zone’s Chaos Emerald.
Players can accomplish this by using unique character abilities using dice rolls, collecting rings and defeating obstacles.
The Sonic Roll board game can be played by up to four players at a time.
KessCo (Kess) is an LA-based toy and game company that offers an assortment of outdoor toys, board games, strategy games, jigsaw puzzles, impulse toys and more.
Sonic Roll is scheduled to debut on Barnes & Nobles e-commerce platform and retail locations in Q1 2024, followed by a wider online release through Target and Amazon.
A limited quantity of Sonic Roll products will be available for purchase ahead of the game’s official release for attendees of this years’ PAX Unplugged tabletop gaming event.
Officially licensed by SEGA of America, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise debuted more than three decades ago as an arcade game series. Since its initial debut, Sonic has been featured in dozens of games, TV series, movies, licensed products and more.
SEGA of America is a division of the Japanese multinational entertainment company, SEGA Corporation.
