IMG continued its hot streak in July, announcing it has been named the exclusive licensing agency for Ubisoft franchises Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six Siege in Europe and Asia.
Just last week, TLL reported IMG had signed a mammoth contract with Lionsgate Studios, currently considered the sixth largest film studio in the world by revenue. Now, IMG VP of Licensing Mickael Andreo says the company is thrilled to be working with two of the world’s most popular and venerable game franchises.
“We’re looking forward to leveraging our strengths in Asia and Europe to expand their licensed product offering,” Andreo said. “We are working with Ubisoft to develop an ambitious program for avid fans of both franchises that will be aligned with the brands’ DNA and the growth of esports as a cultural phenomenon.”
Assassin’s Creed certainly has the numbers to qualify as one of the world’s most popular gaming franchises, with more than 100 million players and 16 games released over the past decade.
IMG says it will expand its robust licensing program into new territories and categories, initially including apparel, tech items, accessories, toys, home decor, stationery and experiences.
Rainbow Six has been almost as successful, with more than 55 million players worldwide and 145 million hours of esports content watched since the launch of the first Rainbow Six Pro League four years ago, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is among the top properties in the esports arena, huge viewership and fan engagement.
François Tallec, Director Consumer Products & Partnerships, Ubisoft EMEA said the company is keen to extend the games popularity into a wider ‘universe’ of products and experiences for their fan base.
“Ubisoft is committed to enriching players’ lives with innovative games, and our global licensing program plays a key role in extending the brand universe,” Tallec said. “We are delighted to partner with IMG, experts in building brand loyalty among consumers, to grow our program with a variety of original products enhancing the overall experience for our fans.”
