Gutsy Animations’ flagship animated series Moominvalley has been renewed for a fourth season by the broadcasters Sky, Yle, and Viaplay.
The Moominvalley animated series is based on a series of childrens books and comic strips written by Tove Jansson between 1945 and 1980. The international licensing rights to the Moomin franchise are currently held by the family-run company, Moomin Characters Oy Ltd.
“As creatives, we’re driven to tell stories that can inspire and bring hope, which is exactly what we aim to do through Moominvalley,” said Gutsy Animations’ Chief Creative Officer Marika Makaroff.
“The series echoes Tove’s work in encouraging values such as respect for nature, kindness, and acceptance among audiences of all ages, so we’re very grateful to have the opportunity to continue doing so with this season four greenlight,” Makaroff added “Alongside our long-standing and supportive partners Sky and Yle, it’s fantastic to welcome Viaplay Group on board and for them to join us in the next chapter of Moominvalley’s incredible global journey.”
Season four of Gutsy Animations’ licensed Moominvalley series is set to launch in late 2024. The plot of the season is inspired by a storyline from the original Moominvalley book series that features a comet threatening to destroy Moominvalley. The Moominvalley series has been sold to over 60 countries to date.
The Viaplay Group has boarded the Moominvalley animated series as a co-production partner and will air all four seasons on its Viaplay streaming platform across multiple territories.
