Sony Pictures Consumer Products (SPCP) has announced a large expansion to the Cobra Kai consumer products program, just in time for the holidays.
In anticipation of the Cobra Kai fourth season release on December 31, SPCP has made licensing deals with several companies, including Bioworld, Diamond Select Toys, Funko, Playmates, Ripple Junction, Surreal Entertainment, Trends International and more.
“Cobra Kai ratings have been strong throughout its run, and as the fourth season approaches, consumer demand for show-themed products has never been stronger,” said Jamie Stevens, EVP, Worldwide Consumer Products from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
“With Cobra Kai, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang, fans have the opportunity to show their support for any of their favorite dojos with the breadth of merchandise we’re offering, and just in time for the show’s debut on New Year’s Eve.”
Sony says the Cobra Kai brand will be released in hundreds of formats in the United States, UK/Europe, Mexico, Brazil and Japan.
The licensing lineup will include many different types of products; including toys, collectibles, apparel, home goods and everything in between.
Among the lineup will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Cobra Kai 2-Pack figurines released by Playmates, a limited-edition athletic-wear collaboration from Champion Athleticwear, and a HERO x Cobra Kai collaboration from HERO Beverage Co.
The television series Cobra Kai takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 film The Karate Kid. The show features a continuation of the conflict between characters Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence.
Season 4 finds the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at a major karate tournament.
The series is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg via their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment.
Cobra Kai is produced by Overbrook Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television.
