Hidden Pigeon Company (HPC) has named Kristofer Updike as its new senior vice president of creative development and production.
HPC is a multi-platform entertainment company that was co-founded by children’s book author Mo Willems, Stampede Ventures and RedBird Capital Partners in 2023.
The company was formed to extend Willems’ extensive catalog of children’s books and family-friendly IP into additional entertainment and retail platforms.
These platforms will include film, TV, digital media, live events, location-based experiences, licensed consumer products and more.
“I am so excited to be a part of this amazing company aimed at expanding the reach of Mo Willems’s incredible library of properties and characters,” said Updike. “We have a lot of exciting things in the works as we look to bring these standout character brands into a whole new chapter of opportunity and success.”
In his new role at Hidden Pigeon, Updike will work alongside Willems and executive producer Tim McKeon to oversee all creative initiatives for the company’s TV and theatrical entertainment.
This includes the development and production of character-based brands such as The Pigeon, Elephant & Piggie, Knuffle Bunny and more.
“Kristofer is a true creative with a keen sense of character and story, and his ability to deliver with both warmth and humor reflects the foundation of Hidden Pigeon Company,” said HPC CEO, Karen K. Miller. “He’s also one of the most well-liked and respected creatives in the business. With decades of experience across all key aspects of the kids and family space, from television and film to theater production, Kristofer will be invaluable in helping
HPC achieve many important wins ahead in the areas most important to the company’s growth.”
Prior to joining HPC, Updike served as VP of development at NBC Universal Media where he worked on implementing the Peacock Kids streaming portfolio, as well as managing the development and production of licensed and wholly-owned children’s entertainment IP.
During his more than 20 years working in the entertainment sector, Updike has held executive leadership positions for companies such as Universal Kids, Sprout and Bix Pix Entertainment.
Updike earned an MFA in Acting from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and a BA in Theatre & Film and Art from Albright College.
He has also studied acting, directing, writing, design, movement and dance at both the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center and the Moscow Art Theatre.
