Mattel, Inc. marks the 40th birthday of the licensed Masters of the Universe franchise with new content.
“We are so excited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Masters of the Universe,” said PJ Lewis, Vice President of Global Marketing and Portfolio Leader at Mattel.
“The He-Man brand and everything it represents—including the tenets of bravery, heroism, and friendship—are more important than ever for children to see on screen. The successful relaunch of Masters of the Universe demonstrates the fact that He-Man still has the power!”
The Masters of the Universe brand originally launched in 1982 with an eight piece action figure collection. Since its initial release, the brand has grown into a global franchise with consumer products, toys, digital games, publishing titles, global collaborations and entertainment media.
The Netflix series, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, was released this year as a part of the brand’s campaign. The series is a continuation of the original Masters of the Universe: He-Man TV series from the 80’s.
Mattel kicked off the brands’ anniversary at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with signings, giveaways and Mattel’s first-ever Hall H Fan Panel, in which William Shatner’s participation in the upcoming animated series, Masters of the Universe: Revolution was announced.
Masters of the Universe: Revolution is an upcoming Netflix series by Mattel and Powerhouse Animation. The series was announced at Geeked Week ‘22 and will prominently feature the characters He-Man and Skeletor.
Mattel also launched a weekly social campaign called MOTUesday which gave information about product releases, artist collaborations, content drops and more for the Masters of the Universe brand. The campaign spanned the period from San Diego Comic-Con to the brand’s official anniversary on October 12th.
In addition, the CG-animated series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has debuted its third season on Netflix.
In April 2022, Mattel launched He-Man & Masters of the Universe on the online gaming platform, Roblox.
This Fall, the Masters of the Universe franchise will debut digital gaming collaborations with the online multiplayer game, Fall Guys and the NFT platform, Cryptoys.
In addition, complementary soundtracks for both Masters of the Universe: Revelation Volume 1 and Volume 2 and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Season 1 have been released on music streaming platforms.
