Ortega, a leading brand of Mexican food products, has partnered with Cheez-It to launch a new crossover snack: Ortega Cheez-It Flavored Taco Shells.
The shells, which hit shelves nationwide September 28, combine the tangy cheese flavor of Cheez-It crackers with the signature crunch of Ortega’s hard taco shell. Ortega says the collaboration is designed to make taco night more adventurous while appealing to both snackers and taco enthusiasts.
“We’ve always believed that taco night should be anything but ordinary,” said Chris Kirwin, brand director of B&G Foods, which owns Ortega. “With the Ortega Cheez-It Flavored Taco Shell, we’ve created a delicious shell that’s not just a vessel for the inside of a taco, but a flavor experience in itself that taco and snack enthusiasts alike will love.”
The new shells can be eaten straight from the box or filled with traditional taco ingredients. Ortega describes the product as delivering “a bold burst of cheesy flavor” in every bite.
Ortega Cheez-It Flavored Taco Shells are rolling out first at Stop & Shop and select Target locations, with a suggested retail price of $2.79. Wider distribution is expected in the coming months.
The collaboration pairs two food giants. Ortega is part of Parsippany, N.J.-based B&G Foods, which owns more than 50 well-known brands including Green Giant, Crisco and Cream of Wheat.
Cheez-It is part of Kellanova, the global snacking company formerly known as Kellogg, which also produces brands such as Pringles and Eggo.
