Old Spice has just announce a new, limited edition grooming collection designed to help Super Mario smell fresh while unclogging drains in space.
The collaboration between Old Spice and Nintendo is based on the upcoming April 1 release of ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’. It will feature five distinct fragrances with names that sound like rejected level titles. The collection includes deodorants, body washes, shampoos, and lotions; everything the modern video game hero needs to smell fresh while rescuing princesses from intergalactic bad guys.
“We aren’t just introducing a line of products; we’re giving fans the ability to smell like a hero,” said Kate DiCarlo, Senior Communications Director at P&G. “This collection combines the nostalgic joy of the Super Mario Galaxy game with the high-
performance freshness men expect from Old Spice. It’s for the guy who wants to turn his morning shower into a cinematic power-up.”
DiCarlo added that the collection “combines the nostalgic joy of the Super Mario Galaxy game with the high-performance freshness men expect from Old Spice … or was it ‘Old Space’?
The five fragrances appropriately read like a sommelier’s fever dream filtered through a Nintendo 64.
Cosmic Quest features “refined watery notes” with citrus and “signature wood and musk notes” for when you want to smell like you’ve just traversed the cosmos, or at least the shower.
Desert Detour combines aged bourbon, black cherry, orange peel, oak, and “vanilla sands,” while Castle Crush throws pineapple, bergamot, grapefruit, peach, mango, jasmine, leafy greens, amber, coconut, and vanilla into the mix.
Space Mischief blends “clean marine notes” with citrus and melon, and Brooklyn Bounce is described as “a veritable burst of exotic fruits” that “evokes warmth and vibrancy as bright citrus and sun-kissed florals rest on a creamy base of musk.”
Our biggest question at TLL is, no mushroom scent? Really?
Old Spice is the 80-year-old grooming brand and number-one selling antiperspirant and deodorant for men in the United States, known just as much for its hilarious commercials and marketing campaigns as for its products. Old Spice is now betting a Super Mario collaboration is the right move, and they’re probably correct, given 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned over $1.3 billion worldwide.
The collection includes aluminum-free deodorant sticks described as “like a 1-Up for your armpits,” aluminum-free body sprays, body washes, 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner to “level-up your hair game,” and hand, face, and body lotion for “other-worldly, lightweight moisturization.”
The complete collection is available at major retailers nationwide while supplies last, starting at $7.97. Old Spice is also offering access to exclusive offers and prizes through its Fan Club, for consumers who want to demonstrate brand loyalty to both their deodorant and their favorite video game franchise simultaneously.
