Toho International is releasing a line-up of licensed products and experiences for Godzilla Day 2022.
Godzilla Day takes place on the 68th anniversary of the franchise’s release on Nov. 3, 2022. The original film ran in 1954 in black and white (see photo above) and was an instant smash hit, spawning 32 films from Toho and several more in licensed Hollywood productions.
The anniversary releases will include first-time screenings, themed contests, gaming partnerships, and food partnerships.
“Godzilla’s long history has shaped the world of pop culture and monster fandom for nearly 70 years,” said Lora Cohn, Managing Director of Toho International. “Godzilla means so much to generations all over the world and we’re thrilled to be partnering with incredible collaborators to honor the world’s most famed and destructive prehistoric sea monster by offering our fans a chance to participate in screenings, gaming contests, and more for this year’s Godzilla Day.”
In a partnership with Fathom Events, Toho International will screen the Japanese film, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla in theaters across the U.S. The film will be available for one-day-only and will include a new featurette as well as an exclusive message from Toho International’s Chief Godzilla Officer, Keiji Ota.
Toho International has also partnered with Alamo Drafthouse to host screenings of
the original 1954 Godzilla film. Presented in Japanese with English subtitles, Godzilla will screen at Alamo locations across the country on Nov. 3, with additional screenings at select locations.
Mythical Games has partnered with Toho for its multiplayer, NFT-based video game, Blankos Block Party. Several licensed monsters from Toho’s Godzilla franchise including Godzilla, Mothra, and Mecha-Godzilla are available for purchase in the game as playable Blankos and NFTs.
A special gameplay discussion between Chris Mowry, Toho’s Creative Manager, and the artist James Groman is also available for players.
King Trivia is partnering with Toho International to offer live Godzilla-themed trivia events nationwide throughout the week of Nov. 3.
Toho International is partnering with Jade City Foods to offer a licensed line of Godzilla hot sauces. The hot sauces will be available both individually and as a 16-Piece Godzilla Hot Sauce Collector’s Set. Jade City is also offering a variety of coffees and blends like the Series 2 Godzilla Coffee 3-Pack, as well as a range of dry rubs and spices like the Series 1 Godzilla Dry Rub 5-Pack.
The LA-based deli, Langer’s, is partnering with Toho International to bring a Godzilla sandwich promotion called the #68 in honor of Godzilla’s 68th anniversary. The special includes the deli’s pastrami sandwich with unlimited fries and soft drinks.
Honey & Butter Macarons is teaming up with Toho to create Godzilla-character macarons. Available on Oct. 29, Nov. 3, and Nov. 5, the shop will also have branded decorations on display and additional Godzilla-inspired merch for sale.
The retail chain, For Your Entertainment, is bringing an expansive line of of Godzilla-themed food products including chocolate, hot sauce, ramen packs, energy drinks, and mochi bites. The retailer will also offer non-consumable licensed products such as a Godzilla Light, a soy-based candle, a 5-pack of bamboo chopsticks, temporary tattoos, a Paint By Number Activity Kit, and more.
The London-based Yokocho Ramen restaurant has partnered with Toho International on a Godzilla promotion that features themed ramen bowls, desserts, and drinks with edible Godzilla decorations. The promotion runs from Oct. 25 to Nov. 30.
Mattel and Toho have partnered on the release of three licensed Godzilla Hot Wheels toys. The first of three will be available at retail in November 2022 at Target with the additional vehicles launching in 2023.
The Crunchyroll Loves streetwear label from the anime brand Crunchyroll is launching a licensed collection in honor of Godzilla Day. The seven-piece apparel collection will feature Spacegodzilla, Little Godzilla, Biollante, and Mechagodzilla.
Kinokuniya USA Book Stores is releasing merchandise for the Official Godzilla Store. The licensed products include artbooks, clear files, stickers, figures, T-shirts, and more.
The pop-culture product designer, Super7, is expanding its licensed Godzilla merchandise with new collectibles, toys, and apparel.
Mondo Collectibles is collaborating with Toho International to release new Godzilla merchandise including vinyl LPs, figures, and posters.
Cavity Colors is renewing its partnership with Toho for Godzilla-branded apparel.
Heroes & Villains Premium Licensed Apparel & Accessories is working with Toho International to bring a line of jackets, hats, shirts, and hoodies based on the Godzilla brand.
Toho International, Inc. is the US-based subsidiary of the Japanese film studio that created the Godzilla character and franchise. Since its initial creation for the 1954 film Gojira, the Godzilla franchise has grown to include numerous films, video games, novels, comic books, television shows and licensed consumer products.
