App developer Budge Studios has partnered with Nickelodeon on the global launch of Dora: Explore and Play!
The launch represents a full-circle moment for Budge Studios, which entered the app market in 2010 with its first title featuring Dora the Explorer. Now, 16 years and more than 2 billion downloads later, the Montreal-based studio is reimagining the Dora experience for a new generation of children.
The app is now available on the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
“Launching Dora: Explore and Play! is a profound, full-circle moment for our team,” Budge Studios co-CEO Michael Elman said. “In 2010, we began our journey with Dora the Explorer as our very first partner. Today, many of the parents downloading our apps are the same ones who grew up watching the original show.
“We are honored to bridge that generational gap, bringing the high-quality CG animation of the new series together with the core educational pillars that have defined the brand for decades.”
The app is designed to feel like an interactive episode of the new Dora series, featuring modern 3D visuals and updated character designs while maintaining the classic “play-along” pillars of active participation, problem-solving, music and bilingual exploration.
Key features include a gameplay experience that honors Dora’s 25-year heritage while using cutting-edge interactive technology.
Like Dora, the game is fully bilingual, with a naturally integrated Spanish vocabulary and phrases that encourage early language development. The game also features appearances by iconic characters from the show, including Boots, Map, Backpack and Swiper the Fox.
The new Dora series features CG animation and imaginative, character-driven storylines, following Dora and her best friend Boots as they embark on adventures in a fantastical rainforest. Guided by Map, Dora and her friends work together to overcome obstacles while being challenged by Swiper.
In addition to the main storyline, the app offers mini-games focused on logic, rhythm and social-emotional skills such as helping friends and using teamwork, along with character-driven songs and interactive musical activities from the new series.
The interface is designed specifically for toddlers and preschoolers, offering a safe, frustration-free experience for young users.
As Budge Studios marks its 16th year, the development team says Dora: Explore and Play! stands as a tribute to its mission of creating safe, creative and educational experiences for children.
Budge Studios has worked on a number of licensed games with top children’s brands. Its award-winning portfolio includes collaborations with global brands such as Bluey, PAW Patrol, Barbie, Hot Wheels, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Hello Kitty.
