Toei Animation has expanded the Dragon Ball Z licensing footprint into gaming with the launch of the first-ever downloadable content pack for Minecraft.
Available now for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, the Dragon Ball Z x Minecraft DLC allows players to participate in battles inspired by the anime’s World Martial Arts Tournament, with options for solo, cooperative and 5v5 gameplay. The release represents a crossover that blends structured anime combat with Minecraft’s famously blocky universe, where power levels may not be measured in exact numbers, but explosions are still encouraged.
Players begin the experience at Kami’s Temple within the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, where they can choose from nearly 20 characters from the Dragon Ball Z series, including Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Frieza, Bulma and Trunks. Each character features distinct combat abilities drawn from the franchise, such as Kamehameha, Galick Gun and various Ki-based attacks, bringing a dose of anime spectacle to Minecraft’s traditionally pickaxe-driven gameplay.
Battles take place across a selection of themed environments, including the Cell Games arena, Planet Namek and the Gizard Wasteland. Between fights, players can visit Capsule Corporation, offering a pause from combat that is considerably calmer than most Dragon Ball training arcs and requires far less shouting.
The DLC also includes a skin pack featuring all playable characters, allowing users to remain in character throughout their time in Minecraft. For a limited time, the package includes a free Scouter character creator item, enabling players to look the part while assessing threats, whether they are facing Frieza or a particularly stubborn Creeper.
The collaboration underscores brand owner Toei Animation’s continued push to extend its core franchises into interactive entertainment and consumer products. Based in Los Angeles, Toei Animation Inc. manages distribution and licensing for properties including Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Digimon and Saint Seiya across multiple international territories.
With the release, Dragon Ball Z joins a growing roster of major entertainment brands adapting themselves to Minecraft’s metaverse platform.
