Electronic Arts launched EA Sports College Football 27 this week on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and, for the first time, PC and mobile platforms.
The release follows what the company described as a record-breaking return of the franchise. EA says the new installment delivers the most authentic college football experience yet, capturing real-world elements affecting the sport in unprecedented detail.
The big news is that this release also marks the franchise’s debut on mobile, powered by the Frostbite engine, EA said. The mobile version is available now on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and includes College Ultimate Team, with additional features planned for later release.
The game itself reflects major changes reshaping college football, including athlete name, image and likeness deals, coaching movement, recruiting and player development. Built around the current landscape of the sport, College Football 27 introduces the largest changes to EA’s Dynasty Mode since the franchise’s launch, including dynamic weather, expanded Road to Glory positions and more than 1,500 new plays.
The game includes thousands of current athletes and more than 300 real coaches, all of them represented in the game under license.
Evan Dexter, EA’s vice president of franchise strategy and marketing, said the game was designed to reflect the tension currently defining the sport.
“College football is experiencing an exciting and tension-filled transformation that has never been more compelling to watch. That tension is exactly what we wanted to reflect in College Football 27; a duality of traditional school pride confronted by a dynamic athlete landscape,” Dexter said.
Dynasty Mode has been rebuilt around a new Dynasty Blueprint system that EA says offers 138 ways to build a program. The system includes playable NIL features, athletic director expectations that can put a user’s job on the line, and Dynasty Points that can be invested in facilities, recruiting and staff. Soft commits can be flipped on signing day, and a Coaching Carousel feature allows players to pursue any open coaching job.
“The game doesn’t just reflect the modern era, it puts you at the center of it,” Dexter said. “Players will choose how they want to win and whether they’re in it for the campus traditions or the individual glory.
“Combined with incredible new gameplay innovation on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, we can’t wait for fans to experience a whole new season of drama, pride, rituals and atmosphere on the sticks.”
Mascot Mashup, a feature the company said was among the most requested by the community, returns with more than 100 unlockable mascots and head-to-head matchups in which every player is rated 99 overall, putting the outcome in the hands of play calling and stick skills.
Dynamic weather now changes conditions over the course of a game, from early snow flurries to whiteout conditions in the fourth quarter. The game also features a refreshed broadcast package with Joel Klatt in the booth and Holly Rowe on the sideline, along with new traditions, marching band songs, drone shows, updated stadiums and livelier student sections intended to capture a gameday atmosphere.
A new optional timing-based catching system gives players direct control over pass and interception outcomes, while smarter zone coverage logic and custom pre-play adjustments add tools on both sides of the ball.
Road to Glory has been expanded with three new playable positions: edge rusher, free safety and tight end, each with its own expectations and grading system. Player creation has also been revamped, letting users build an athlete from scratch or choose from new Legend Builds. A tracking system for on- and off-field decisions generates Legacy Scores that shape draft stock and reputation, and those scores will carry over into Madden NFL 27’s Superstar mode on draft day.
