A new fashion collection inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo will launch across Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic in March.
The launch is part of European fashion. brand Medicine’s ‘Artistic Medicine’ collections, in which the brand collaborates with artists to create limited edition drops. The idea is to celebrate art not as something set aside in a museum, but as something lived.
The collections include both individual artists like Frida Kahlo and also literary and entertainment works like Harry Potter and The Witcher.
This latest collaboration was brokered by the Barcelona-based Art Ask Agency, which represents the Frida Kahlo estate and intellectual property.
The collection covers apparel for men and women as well as accessories and home décor with more than 20 individual SKUs.
A special feature of this Frida Kahlo collection is the inclusion of selected Frida Kahlo paintings under the Frida Kahlo brand.
Beatriz Alvarado, Head of International Affairs at The Frida Kahlo Corporation, says her team is thrilled with the result of this collaboration.
“I am so happy to share a new launch, one that feels like opening a page of Frida’s world and letting it all fall gently into our own,” Alvarado said. “For the first time, Medicine is bringing the art and legacy of Frida into the language of fashion, translating her spirit onto pieces we can wear, hold close, and live in, so her inspiration becomes tangible, intimate, and part of everyday life.”
Frida Kahlo’s unique artistic style has turned out to be extremely popular in the fashion world, resulting in the brand enjoying a successful long-term licensing program around the world.
Medicine would appear to be an ideal partner for the Frida Kahlo estate and similar art-based brands. The company was founded in 2013 with clothing created by Polish designers, who would often invite both new and famous artists to cooperate on the creation of unique, limited collections.
