Sony Pictures is continuing its program of adapting top video games into films and series with three new adaptations.
The new films and series will include adaptations of the runaway hit game Helldivers (pictured above), Horizon Zero Dawn, and Ghost of Tsushima.
The announcements were made at the CES 2025 tech trade show, where Sony unveiled a wealth of new details surrounding upcoming video game adaptations.
Sony previously created successful adaptations of games like Uncharted, Twisted Metal, and particularly the critically acclaimed series The Last of Us.
The latest round of adaptations from Sony include new movies based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn. PlayStation Studios’ Asad Qizilbash and Screen Gems’ Ashley Brucks both revealed more details about the Helldivers 2 film adaptation, which will be made by Screen Gems, a distribution studio that is a division of Sony Pictures Group.
Aside from the Screen Gems studio announcement, nothing else has been revealed about Helldivers the movie.
The Horizon series (starting with Horizon Zero Dawn) has already branched out into other mediums already with a LEGO game release, and a VR spinoff called Horizon Call of the Mountain.
Horizon’s character Aloy has also made an appearance in Genshin Impact as a playable character, but the new adaptation appears to be a film, and no further details were revealed about the previously announced Netflix series from 2022.
Both presenters also revealed more details about the upcoming Until Dawn film adaptation, which is scheduled to launch this year. Peter Stormare, who appeared in the Until Dawn video game and will also appear in the film adaptation, explained that the film will pay homage to the video game of the same name, but will not be a direct adaptation and will have its own story. Until Dawn launches on April 25, 2025.
Sony also revealed a partnership with Crunchyroll to make an anime adaptation of the game Ghost of Tsushima.
Crunchyroll’s Rahul Purini announced Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, is in the works and will be based loosely off of the title’s Legends multiplayer mode. The anime will be produced in collaboration with Aniplex, and will launch sometime in 2027.
Lastly, Sony’s CES 2025 show revealed a new trailer for the upcoming The Last of Us season two, and the trailer reveals the show will be returning to Max in April 2025.
